The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested Hon. Gudaji Kazaure, a former member of the House of Representatives, over allegations that he received ₦70 million from the embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele.
Grassroots Parrot gathered that Kazaure, who represented Kazaure, Roni, Gwiwa, and Yankwashi Federal Constituency of Jigawa State, was apprehended by operatives of the EFCC on Wednesday, shortly after a High Court in Kano lifted a restraining order that had previously barred the agency from arresting him.
According to reports, the former lawmaker allegedly received the money from Emefiele in two tranches. An EFCC insider revealed to newsmen that ₦20 million was funneled to Kazaure through an intermediary identified as Eric on Emefiele’s behalf. The funds were reportedly earmarked for the purchase of “Sallah Rams.”

The same source further disclosed that Kazaure also received an additional ₦50 million, said to be a personal donation from Emefiele following a fire incident at the former lawmaker’s residence.
Kazaure is currently in custody at the EFCC’s Kano zonal office. However, sources indicate that he may be transferred to the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, where formal charges could be filed against him in the coming days.
In December 2022, Kazaure accused Emefiele of corruption, alleging that ₦89.1 trillion in stamp duty charges had gone missing under Emefiele’s leadership at the CBN.
