An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ogba, Lagos State, on Wednesday discharged Comfort Emmanson, the passenger accused of unruly behavior and assault aboard an Ibom Air flight.

Magistrate Olanrewaju Salami freed Emmanson after the police formally withdrew the five-count charge filed against her.

The development followed an earlier announcement by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo (SAN), who confirmed that the decision came after consultations with aviation stakeholders.

According to the minister, the resolution was reached after a review of the incident, appeals from concerned individuals, and consideration of the remorse expressed by those involved.

Emmanson had been arraigned on Monday and granted bail in the sum of ₦500,000 with two sureties in like sum but was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for failing to meet her bail conditions.

At the resumed hearing, the prosecutor, Oluwabunmi Adeitan, informed the court of the new developments necessitating the case withdrawal and presented a formal application, which the court approved.
