Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has been named the CAF Footballer of the Year for 2023, following an exceptional season marked by historic achievements.
The Atalanta star received the prestigious award at a glamorous ceremony held on Monday night in Marrakech, Morocco.
Lookman edged out top contenders, including Ivory Coast’s Simon Adingra, PSG’s Achraf Hakimi, Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, and South Africa’s Ronwen Williams, to claim the honor.
Lookman’s stellar performances this year earned him widespread acclaim. He made history as the first player since 1975 to score a hat-trick in the Europa League/UEFA Cup final, netting three goals within just 26 minutes against Bayer Leverkusen.

His remarkable contributions also saw him named in the Europa League Team of the Year and play a direct role in 18 Serie A goals for Atalanta during the 2022/23 season.
The 27-year-old’s accomplishments extended beyond CAF recognition, as he was ranked 14th in the Ballon d’Or rankings announced on October 28.
Lookman’s award reinforces his growing reputation as one of Africa’s finest football talents and highlights his impact at both club and international levels.
