Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has reinstated Chief Jonathan Zamuna, the paramount ruler of Piriga in the Lere local government area, highlighting the critical role of traditional institutions as stabilizing forces in the state and the country.

Chief Zamuna was previously dethroned by former Governor Nasir El-Rufa’i on May 22, 2023, shortly before the end of his tenure.

Governor Sani announced the reinstatement on Thursday, July 4, during a meeting with the State Council of Chiefs.

He underscored the necessity of involving traditional rulers in governance and security efforts, noting their influence and close connection to the communities.

“The traditional institution has remained a stabilizing force in our communities and in the state as a whole. It is in the interest of governments at all levels to treat you with respect and work closely with you to deepen participation in governance and secure our communities,” Sani stated.

He emphasized his administration’s commitment to citizen engagement, asserting that traditional rulers are essential stakeholders and must be given due respect.

Governor Sani also reiterated his dedication to the rule of law and the positive influence of traditional values on the state.

Governor Sani highlighted ongoing efforts to improve security across the state, mentioning plans to establish a military brigade in Southern Kaduna and increase military presence in frontline areas.

He assured that the state government will continue to collaborate with security agencies to address security challenges effectively.

“As proof of my commitment to the rule of law, I want to make known our intention to comply fully with the court judgment issued on June 10, 2024, restoring Chief Jonathan Zamuna to his stool,” Sani announced.
