The Kano State Government has formally requested President Bola Tinubu to relocate the deposed 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, citing concerns that his presence in the state poses a threat to its peace and stability.
The state’s Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam, conveyed this appeal during a press conference on Monday, addressing the ongoing chieftaincy crisis in Kano.
Abdussalam explained the government’s firm stance on reinstating Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the 16th Emir of Kano.
He stated that the state government had not been served with any court orders restraining their actions or mandating all parties to maintain the status quo.

“There are eight respondents in the court documents, and only one, the Inspector General of Police, was served with the court order.
The Kano State Government, Attorney General, state police commissioner, DSS, and NSCDC were not served,” Abdussalam clarified.
He expressed shock at the federal directives that appeared to enforce the court order, noting that security chiefs had communicated their inability to defy “orders from above.”
Abdussalam accused certain individuals within the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating protests against the dissolution of the emirates and Sanusi’s reinstatement.
“Some politicians from the opposition have been vocal and vehement about the repeal law and reinstatement of Sanusi, driving people around the deposed Emir, and conspiring to cause mayhem in the state,” he said.

Abdussalam detailed incidents where security forces provided cover for protestors near the governor’s office, highlighting how this undermined the state’s stability.
“Ever since the process of repealing the law started, Kano was peaceful and people were jubilating, only for us to start seeing negative developments,” he added.
He further mentioned that protests in other emirates such as Gaya, Rano, and Bichi were politically motivated by APC members.
Despite these tensions, the Emir of Gaya publicly accepted the changes in good faith and urged compliance with the law.

In his appeal to President Tinubu, Abdussalam urged immediate action to relocate Bayero. “We appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Office of the National Security Adviser, and other relevant agencies to investigate the happenings in Kano and take steps to evacuate the deposed Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, from the state. As it stands, he constitutes a security threat.”
