Atiku Blames Federal Govt For Fueling Crisis in Kano

Former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has condemned the Federal Government’s deployment of soldiers in Kano, stating that this action undermines the peace and security of the state and violates the 1999 Constitution as amended.

Atiku highlighted that the Kano State House of Assembly and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf adhered to due process in passing and signing the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024.

This new legislation repealed the 2019 law that divided the ancient Kano Emirate into five emirates and reappointed Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the 16th Emir of Kano State.

In his words, “The action of the Federal Government in deploying soldiers in Kano in the tussle over the throne of the ancient city is an upset to the peace and security of the state,” Atiku stated.

He emphasized that these events occurred within legal boundaries, in compliance with the powers conferred on the Governor by Section 5(2) of the 1999 Constitution, and involved consultation with the Kingmakers of Kano.

Atiku expressed surprise over the early morning intrusion by the former Emir of Kano, His Majesty Aminu Ado Bayero, who, with federal support, entered the Nasarawa Palace of the Kano Emirate while the reappointed Emir, Muhammadu Sanusi II, was at the Gidan Dabo, the main residence of the Emir of Kano.

The former Vice President warned that any attempt to destabilize the peace and harmony of Kano State would be met with resistance.

He reminded the Tinubu-led administration of Kano’s long-standing reputation for peace and harmony and cited the peaceful aftermath of Sanusi’s previous dethronement on March 9, 2020.

Atiku’s statement was in response to the Federal Government’s decision to deploy soldiers to the mini-palace of Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero following his dethronement.

Governor Abba Yusuf reinstated Sanusi as the 16th Emir of Kano on Friday, a move that came after Sanusi’s dethronement by the previous administration of Abdullahi Ganduje.

Grassroots Parrot earlier reports that the ousted Emir Aminu Bayero’s aircraft landed at Aminu Kano International Airport, where he was greeted by mammoth supporters.

Security operatives accompanied Ado Bayero from the airport to the mini-palace amid tensions in the state. Governor Yusuf had ordered Bayero’s arrest, accusing him of creating unrest in Kano.

Atiku’s condemnation reflects growing concerns about the Federal Government’s intervention in state affairs and its potential impact on the stability of Kano.
