Amid sustained speculation over a possible defection of Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has again made it clear that he will not return to the ruling party without firm conditions.

Speaking on Wednesday at his Miller Road residence in Kano while receiving supporters from Rano and Dawakin Tofa local government areas, Kwankwaso said any move to the APC must come with clear terms and guarantees. His remarks were contained in a statement issued by his media aide, Saifullahi Hassan.

“I will not go to the APC blindly. I must be clearly informed of my role, the direction of the journey and the fate of our plans for the common people,” he said.

Kwankwaso distanced himself from reports that Governor Yusuf is planning to defect to the APC, stressing that he neither endorsed nor supported such a move.

He also criticised those allegedly pushing the governor towards the ruling party, insisting that any elected official who defects should first relinquish the mandate won on the NNPP platform.

While ruling out an unconditional return to the APC, Kwankwaso reiterated that he remains open to political realignment, provided it offers clear benefits and protects the interests of his supporters and the Kano State Government.

Meanwhile, Kano State Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has publicly identified with Kwankwaso following his return from an overseas trip.

Gwarzo was seen at the NNPP leader’s residence and at Wednesday’s meeting, further fuelling perceptions of his loyalty to the Kwankwasiyya movement amid the unfolding political drama in the state.
