The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kano State Strategic Command, has recovered 150 blocks and three sacks of cannabis sativa weighing 112 kilograms following a road accident along the Zaria-Kano expressway.
The seizure was made on Saturday, September 6, at Gadar Tamburawa after a Volkswagen Golf collided with a truck.
In a statement on Thursday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari, said operatives on patrol heard a loud crash around 6 a.m. and rushed to the scene to rescue the victims.
“Officers removed the windscreen, window, and door of the Golf to extricate the driver and passenger. However, the passenger attempted to flee but was apprehended,” he said.

A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of the cannabis consignment, which the driver later admitted he was transporting on behalf of a consignor. The suspect also confessed to having made similar deliveries within and outside Kano in the past, according to Muhammad-Maigatari.
He further disclosed that the driver admitted to taking a one-way route in an attempt to evade NDLEA checkpoints before the crash occurred. The truck driver, meanwhile, sustained a fracture during the accident.
“This incident involved two offences: one-way driving leading to a collision and trafficking in narcotics,” Muhammad-Maigatari stated.

He added that the command, under State Commander Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, would ensure the suspects face prosecution.
The spokesperson also commended the patrol team for their professionalism and swift response, describing it as a reflection of the effective leadership of NDLEA Chairman Brig.-Gen. Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd.).
The NDLEA urged the public to shun drug trafficking and promptly report suspicious movements of illicit substances.
