At least one person has been confirmed dead following a violent clash between youths from Faruruwa and Tarandai villages in the Takai Local Government Area of Kano State.
Grassroots Parrot reports that the incident occurred around 7:45 p.m. on Thursday, May 23, during a bustling market day at Faruruwa Market. Eyewitnesses told security analyst Zagazola Makama that what began as a minor scuffle quickly escalated into a full-blown confrontation between rival youth groups.
Several makeshift, thatched shops were reportedly set ablaze as tensions flared, forcing traders and residents to flee the market in panic.
According to preliminary police investigations, the violence was triggered after one Sani Yunusa, a 28-year-old resident of Toho Diribo village, was attacked on his way back from visiting his girlfriend in Tarandai.

He was reportedly assaulted with sticks and cutlasses by a group of youths believed to be from Faruruwa.
Security forces were swiftly deployed to the area to restore order and prevent further escalation of violence. The Kano State Police Command confirmed the death and noted that efforts were underway to arrest those involved in the attack.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that one Sani Yunusa, 28, of Toho Diribo village in Takai LGA, had visited his girlfriend at Tarandai village. He was attacked with sticks and cutlasses by youths suspected to be from the rival village while returning home,” the police said in a statement.
Police sources say an investigation is ongoing to determine the underlying cause of the conflict and ensure justice is served.
Residents have called for an increased security presence in the area, especially during market days, to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
