An Ogun State High Court on Wednesday, January 22, sentenced a 22-year-old man, Jamiu Malomo, to death by hanging for the murder of a sex worker, Asisat Akande.
The court found Malomo guilty of stabbing the victim to death following a heated argument over his refusal to pay the complete agreed charges.
Malomo, an ex-convict who had been released from prison just a month before the incident, was convicted on a one-count charge of murder.

Although he pleaded not guilty during the trial, Justice O. Ogunfowora ruled that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Ogunfowora stated, “You are hereby guilty of killing Asisat Akande as preferred against you. You will be hanged by the neck until you are dead. May God have mercy on you.”
The State Prosecuting Counsel, A.M. Adebayo, revealed during the trial that Malomo committed the offense on July 18, 2021, at about 9:30 p.m. in the Ori-Apata area of Oke-Aregba, Abeokuta.
According to Adebayo, Malomo had picked Akande, a sex worker, from the 3AD Bar in Panseke and taken her to his residence for sexual activity.
“After having carnal knowledge of the deceased, she demanded N10,000, which was their agreed fee. However, he refused to pay the full amount, offering her only N8,000.”

“This disagreement led to a heated argument, during which Malomo pulled out a knife from his pocket and stabbed her in the neck. The stab resulted in her instant death,” Adebayo said.
Following the murder, Malomo was apprehended by the police at the 3AD Bar in Panseke, where he reportedly attempted to pick another woman for sexual activity.
The prosecution argued that his actions contravened Section 316 and were punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
