Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly has on Monday impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, citing multiple statutory and financial infractions. The decision follows a series of allegations and controversies that have plagued Mr. Obasa’s tenure.
The deputy speaker, Mrs. Lasbat Meranda, was immediately sworn in as the new Speaker of the House. Mrs. Meranda, who represents Apapa Constituency 1, previously served as the Chief Whip of the Assembly. Her ascension marks a significant shift in the leadership dynamics of the state legislature.
