Nigeria has been ranked the third most generous country in Africa and fifth globally in the 2024 World Giving Index, published by the Charity Aid Foundation (CAF).
The index highlights countries where people are most likely to donate money, volunteer time, or help strangers.
Kenya topped the African list, ranking first in the continent and second globally, followed by The Gambia in second place in Africa and fourth globally.
Liberia secured fourth place in Africa, with Guinea, Sierra Leone, and Ghana also featuring in the top 10.
The World Giving Index report revealed that 4.2 billion people worldwide gave money, time, or helped someone they didn’t know in 2022, representing 72% of the global adult population.

The report praised Kenya’s performance, noting its impressive ranking despite economic challenges such as rising unemployment and the high cost of living, and commended the country for its strong culture of volunteering and community support.
Despite the economic instability bedeviling Nigeria as a country, the statistics show the unwavering generosity of the people within the continent and the world at large.
