Tragedy has struck the Taraba State University (TSU), Jalingo, following the death of a 100-level student, Comfort Jimtop Oliver, who was discovered lifeless at her boyfriend’s residence.
Comfort, a mass communication student and indigene of Takum Local Government Area, was found dead on Friday, September 12, 2025, in a room in the Bakasi area of Jalingo, near Dr. Rapha’s quarters, opposite the Vice-Chancellor’s gate. She was identified as a member of the Kuteb ethnic group.
The circumstances surrounding her sudden death remain unclear. However, police sources confirmed that investigations have commenced to unravel the cause.
A senior police officer attached to the station at the university gate disclosed that empty bottles of bitter drinks were found beside the bed where Comfort died.

“By the time the matter was reported to our station, on our arrival, nobody was found in the house, which has over 15 tenants. The owner of the room, believed to be the boyfriend of the deceased, was also not found and is currently at large,” the officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, stated.
He added that preliminary findings are ongoing, stressing that the command is determined to get to the root of the matter.
Meanwhile, the incident has thrown the university community into mourning, with students expressing shock over the untimely death of their colleague.
The Taraba State Police Command is expected to release further details as investigations progress.
