A 31-year-old man identified as Abdullateef has died by suicide after jumping into a domestic well in the Centre Igboro area of Ilorin, Kwara State.

The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, November 23, 2025, while most residents were still asleep.

The spokesperson of the Kwara State Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, confirmed the development in a statement on Sunday. He revealed that the deceased had previously attempted to jump into the same well but was unsuccessful.

According to Adekunle, a rescue team was immediately deployed to the scene after the Service received a distress call at about 4:33 a.m. from Bolarinwa Compound.

“Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that a 31-year-old man named Abdullateef had deliberately jumped into a domestic well. Findings revealed that he had reportedly been making repeated attempts since the previous day, expressing intentions of taking his own life,” the statement read.

He added that the man made the final attempt while other occupants of the compound were asleep, leaving no one to intervene.

Firefighters recovered the lifeless body from the well and handed it over to the head of the family, Alhaji Bolarinwa.

The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed deep sadness over the incident and extended condolences to the bereaved family.

Olumuyiwa urged the public to remain alert to signs of emotional distress or suicidal thoughts in people around them, stressing that early support and intervention can prevent such tragedies.

“The Kwara State Fire Service remains committed to safeguarding lives and promoting community safety across the state,” he said.
