President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting initially scheduled for today, following the passing of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Taoreed Lagbaja.
In a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the rescheduling of the meeting was announced as a mark of respect for the late general.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, has ordered rescheduling the Federal Executive Council meeting till another date to be announced,” Onanuga wrote.

The statement further noted that the President was deeply saddened by the sudden loss of General Lagbaja, who served as the Chief of Army Staff from June 19, 2023, until his passing on November 5, 2024.
To honor the memory of General Lagbaja, President Tinubu has directed that flag be flown at half-staff nationwide for the next seven days.
This gesture, the President stated, is to pay tribute to a dedicated military leader who contributed significantly to Nigeria’s security and military operations.
Details on the new date for the FEC meeting are expected to be announced in due course, as the nation observes a period of mourning for General Lagbaja.
