The Kwara State Police Command has apprehended a self-acclaimed cleric, AbdulRahman Bello, for allegedly killing a student for ritual purposes.

The deceased, Lawal Hafsoh Yetunde, a final-year student at the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin, was reported missing on February 10, 2025, after attending a naming ceremony.

Reports indicate that Yetunde left the event abruptly after receiving a phone call. Following her disappearance, concerned family members reported the case to the Oja Oba Police Station, prompting an investigation.

According to a source, police detectives tracked her phone records, which led them to the suspect at Offa Garage, though his family house is located in Isalekoto.

Initially denying involvement, Bello later confessed that the victim had visited his residence but claimed she died from an asthma attack.

Upon searching his house, authorities discovered her dismembered remains hidden in a bowl, along with tools allegedly used for the crime. Further evidence suggested that this was not Bello’s first such act, as investigators found a table equipped with dismembering tools in his room.

Bello is reported to be the son of a late prominent cleric from Isalekoto.

Confirming the incident, Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, described the case as ‘gruesome.’
