A woman identified as Harira Muhammad of Tudun Murtala has been arraigned before the Kano Upper Shari’a Court sitting in the Post Office area of Kano Municipality for allegedly being married to two men at the same time.

According to court proceedings, Harira has been legally married to her first husband, Sagiru Shuaibu, also from Tudun Murtala, for the past six months, but they had been living separately.

Grassroots Parrot gathered that the situation came to light when Shuaibu visited his wife’s home and found another man, later identified as her second husband, on their matrimonial bed.

Shuaibu, who was shocked by the discovery, raised an alarm, drawing the attention of neighbours who intervened and alerted authorities.

During her court appearance, Harira initially denied being married to Shuaibu, but she retracted her denial after the presiding judge, Khadi Munzali Tanko Soron-Dinki, ordered her to swear by the Holy Qur’an.

The second man, Bello Abdullahi of Yankaba, claimed that he legally married Harira through her uncle, one Abdullahi Umar, after paying a dowry of ₦100,000.

The judge ordered further investigation into the matter by the police and directed that both Harira Muhammad and Bello Abdullahi be remanded in a custodial facility until May 16, pending the outcome of the investigation.
