Troops of the Joint Task Force in Tundun Wada Local Government Area of Kano State have arrested a suspected notorious kidnapper during a security operation in Sumana village, the Nigerian Army disclosed on Tuesday.

According to a statement issued by Capt. Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade Kano, the 55-year-old suspect was apprehended on April 20, 2025, as part of ongoing military operations aimed at curbing criminal activities in the region.

The suspect was paraded before the Brigade Commander, Brigadier-General Ahmed Tukur, during his Easter visit to troops stationed at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Falgore, Doguwa LGA. The commander used the visit to celebrate with the soldiers and assess their operational readiness.

During the operation, troops recovered a significant cache of arms and military gear from the suspect. Items recovered include one fabricated AK-47 rifle, a Dane gun, nine rounds of 9mm pistol ammunition, a woodland camouflage uniform, a desert camouflage, a woodland vest, and a Bajaj motorcycle seat believed to be used for concealing weapons.

Brig.-Gen. Tukur commended the troops for their professionalism and gallantry in executing the operation successfully.

“The army remains dedicated to its mandate of safeguarding lives and properties. We will not relent in our efforts to bring perpetrators of criminal acts to justice,” the statement read.

He further reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to collaborating with other security agencies and local authorities to restore peace and security across affected communities.

The suspect is currently in custody and undergoing preliminary investigation.
