The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the death of an 18-year-old boy, identified as Tersoo Veregh, who allegedly took his own life in Makurdi, the state capital.

According to reports by security analyst Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, October 4, at the High Level area of the city.

The deceased’s father, Mr. Veregh Nathaniel, of Iorkyaako Street, said he made the heartbreaking discovery around 2:00 a.m. when he stepped out of his room to ease himself and found his son hanging from the ceiling.

Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of ‘B’ Division, Makurdi, promptly led a team of detectives to the scene. The officers documented the scene, took photographs of the body, and later conveyed it to the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) mortuary.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Command confirmed the incident, adding that an investigation has commenced to determine the circumstances that led to the teenager’s death.

While the cause of the alleged suicide remains unclear, police authorities assured that findings from the ongoing investigation will help uncover possible motives and ensure that all angles are thoroughly explored.

The tragic event has thrown the Iorkyaako Street community into mourning, with residents expressing shock over the incident.
