Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has expressed the readiness of his government to conduct local government elections in the state.

The governor said the move was in due compliance with the judgment of the Supreme Court that affirmed the financial autonomy of the third tier of government.

Governor Yusuf made this hint during a stakeholders meeting with the leadership of the ruling New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) at the Government House, Kano, on Friday.

“Preparations are in top gear by the Kano State Independent Electorate Commission (KANSIEC) on the conduct of council polls, and I can assure you this will hold any time soon.” He said.

A statement issued by Sanusi Bature, the governor’s spokesperson, and made available to Grassroots Parrot on Sunday confirmed the development.

It reads further. “Our administration has allowed the previous LG Executive Councils in the 44 LGAs to finish their tenure despite pressure from within; this is out of respect we have for the rule of law.”

“We will soon invite you again for the selection of our party’s candidates to be fielded in the 44 LGAs, who will run for the offices of Chairmen, Vice Chairmen, and Councillors. We shall run peaceful campaigns with the belief that the majority of Kano people will vote for the NNPP” Gov. Yusuf assured.
