The Kano State Police Command has vowed to obey the court order stopping the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Usaini Muhammad Gumel, made this known on Saturday while briefing newsmen at the Kano Police Headquarters on the controversial emirship tussle in Kano.

Grassroots Parrot had reported how a Federal High Court sitting in Kano on Thursday granted an ex-parte order stopping Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano from reinstating Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The order also kicked against the abolishment of four emirates: Bichi, Gaya, Karaye, and Rano, in a bill earlier passed by the state house of assembly on Thursday.

Justice Muhammed Liman directed all parties involved to maintain status quo ante pending the determination of the suit filed by Sarkin Dawaki Babba, Aminu Babba-Dan’Agundi on Thursday.

The judge adjourned the case to June 3, 2024, for a hearing of the Fundamental Rights application.

But Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had condemned the court order, claiming that “it was purportedly issued from America.” He also vowed to report the abuse of court order by the judge to the governor’s forum.

However, in a twist of events on Saturday, the commissioner of police insisted that the court order stands and will be obeyed.

Asked if he received any order from Governor Yusuf to arrest the deposed Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, the commissioner said he also read the story online like every other Nigerian.

“I also saw and read the story online, like other citizens.” He said.

Gumel advised Kano people to remain calm and patient and to cooperate with security agencies, as the matter will be addressed by the court on the adjournment date.

He said any attempt to disrupt the peace being enjoyed in the state will be resisted by the security agencies, and the perpetrators will be brought to book.
