A police inspector serving with the Kano State Command has died after accidentally discharging his rifle while on duty in the Hotoro area of Kano.
The tragic incident occurred on Saturday, September 27, 2025, around 5:40 a.m., according to a post shared on X by security analyst Zangazola Makama on Sunday.
The deceased officer was identified as Inspector Aminu Ibrahim, attached to the Hotoro Division.
Preliminary reports revealed that Ibrahim had entered a toilet within the premises of Basnaj Global Resources Limited when the accident happened.

It was gathered that the inspector accidentally shot himself in the stomach while squatting, with his loaded AK-47 rifle hanging around his neck. The weapon, marked GT 4177, was later recovered in a cocked position, with 29 rounds of ammunition remaining out of the 30 earlier issued to him.
Doctors immediately rushed him to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where they confirmed his death upon arrival. His remains have since been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary for autopsy.
The Kano State Police Command has yet to release an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.
