The Kano State Police Command has apprehended a 20-year-old suspect, Usman Sagiru, in connection with the fatal attack on vigilante members in the entourage of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II.

The incident occurred on Sunday, March 30, at approximately 12:40 pm, as worshippers dispersed from the Eid praying ground.

According to police reports, Sagiru, a resident of Sharifai Quarters, and other unidentified suspects allegedly stabbed Surajo Rabiu, a vigilante member from Sabon Titi Jaba Quarters.

Rabiu later succumbed to his injuries. Another vigilante member, Aminu Suleman from Kofar Mata Quarters, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital.

Authorities have since launched a full investigation into the attack. As part of the ongoing probe, the police have invited Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, for questioning.

The Kano State Police Command has reaffirmed its strict ban on all forms of Durbar celebrations, warning that violators will face legal consequences.

Additionally, the police reiterated their zero-tolerance policy towards thuggery (Daba) and any activities that may threaten public order.

SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Police Public Relations Officer, issued the statement on behalf of the Kano State Commissioner of Police.

“We urge the public to remain calm and cooperate with the police as we work to ensure peace and security in Kano State,” the statement read.

The police have assured the public that efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects and bring them to justice.
