Former Senate Chief Whip, Mohammed Ali Ndume, has declined the chairmanship of the Committee on Tourism, citing his unfamiliarity with tourism activities and asserting that he is not a tourist.
Ndume, representing Borno South under the All Progressives Congress (APC), made this statement during a press briefing at his residence in Maiduguri, where he was present for the third day of prayers for his late sister-in-law.
Addressing the recent developments, Ndume expressed gratitude for President Bola Tinubu’s approval of the N70,000 minimum wage but pointed out its inadequacy compared to the high cost of a 50-kg bag of rice, which exceeds the new minimum wage.

Regarding his removal as Senate Chief Whip by the APC’s National Working Committee (NWC), Ndume affirmed his acceptance of the decision, viewing it as an act of God. He emphasized his commitment to democracy and truth, quoting former US President Theodore Roosevelt on patriotism and the duty to speak truth to power.
“I have not regretted what I said during my interview with Arise TV. I thank all Nigerians who aligned with my statement regarding excruciating hunger and insecurity under President Bola Tinubu,” Ndume stated firmly.
While acknowledging suggestions to join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or another political party, Ndume reiterated that his allegiance remains with his constituents and supporters, who will ultimately determine his political path.

“I am one of the founding members of the APC. It is my people, my constituency, and my supporters that will decide for me whether to stay in APC, join another party, or quit politics,” he affirmed.
Ndume clarified that he has chosen not to pursue legal action, entrusting his fate to divine intervention. He called upon his supporters and all Nigerians to pray for peace, stability, and justice in the nation during these challenging times.
As developments unfold, Ndume remains resolute in his stance, urging calmness and adherence to the rule of law among his followers and fellow citizens.
