The Gombe State Police Command says it has recovered two abandoned babies in separate incidents and arrested three suspects in connection with the cases.
The spokesperson of the command, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, September 19, 2025. He said the first incident occurred on September 9 when a newborn baby boy was discovered inside a commercial tricycle.
“On 09/09/2025 at about 1930hrs, one Auwal Abdullahi, a Keke Napep rider, brought to the Gona Divisional Police Station a newborn baby boy inside a carton,” Abdullahi stated.

The tricyclist told police that an unidentified woman boarded his vehicle from Madaki Quarters, Gombe, to BCGA Quarters. On arrival, she asked him to wait while she withdrew money from a nearby POS but never returned. When he checked the carton she had left behind, he found the baby.
The child was taken into safe custody and later handed over to the Gombe State Ministry of Social Welfare. Police said the matter is still under investigation, while warning commercial drivers to be more vigilant about passengers and their luggage.
In a related development, police said a three-month-old baby was rescued after being allegedly given away by the mother in connivance with another woman.

“The suspects were tracked and arrested at the Trailer Park, Tumfure, Akko LGA, Gombe State. Investigation is ongoing, and they will be charged to court as soon as the process is completed,” Abdullahi said.
The Command urged residents to be vigilant and to report suspicious movements, especially involving young women who are not well known in their communities.
