The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested the mother of a newborn baby who was dumped in a bush in Akwanga, Akwanga Local Government Area of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Thursday in Lafia.
“The mother of the baby has been identified and arrested. The Commissioner of Police has ordered a transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia, for comprehensive investigation and prosecution of the suspect,” Nansel stated.

The baby, a girl, was reportedly abandoned on Wednesday in the popular A.A. Koto area of Akwanga. She was discovered by residents along a bush path near Hope Academy Primary School and handed over to the police.
An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, told newsmen that the infant was wrapped in a piece of cloth when she was found.
“The baby was dumped in the bush by her mother, a final-year NCE student of the College of Education, Akwanga,” the resident said.
The child is said to be in stable condition after being rescued, while police have assured that a thorough investigation will be carried out to ensure justice.
