Four years after his mysterious disappearance, a former undergraduate of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Shafiu Auwal Ibrahim, has been found alive in Kaduna, where he had reportedly been living with an Islamic scholar.
Shafiu, who hails from the Janbulo area of Kano, went missing in 2021 under unclear circumstances, sparking deep distress among his family and friends. For years, they searched tirelessly, contacting authorities and community leaders, but all efforts to locate him proved fruitless.
Eventually, the family gave up hope, assuming their son had died — until a stunning breakthrough this year.
According to a relative, Shafiu was discovered in a remote village in Kaduna, residing with an Islamic cleric who claimed to have taken him in several years ago.

“He was found in a village in Kaduna with a cleric who said he met him long ago. The cleric explained that when he first found Shafiu, he appeared to be mentally unstable,” the relative revealed.
The family expressed immense joy and relief after reuniting with their son, describing the discovery as “a miracle after years of heartbreak.”
“We thank God he is alive and well. He’s calm now and back home,” a family member said.
The circumstances surrounding Shafiu’s disappearance remain unclear, but his safe return has brought closure to a painful chapter that haunted his family for years.
