The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a 300-level Sociology student of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Abdullahi Umar Hafizi.
Hafizi was reportedly stabbed to death around 11:00 p.m. on Monday, August 4, 2025, by suspected phone snatchers in the Tsamiyar Kuturu area of Dorayi Karama quarters, Gwale Local Government Area of the state.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the command, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the arrests were made following a swift and coordinated operation involving officers from the Department of Operations, Dorayi Babba Division, Sharada Division, Kumbotso Division, and other tactical units.
“The suspects, all residents of different locations within the Dorayi Karama axis, were arrested after the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, issued a 24-hour ultimatum to track down those responsible for the heinous crime,” Kiyawa said.

He disclosed that dangerous weapons, including cutlasses and a pair of scissors, were recovered from the suspects during the operation.
“During the raid, cutlasses, a pair of scissors, and other dangerous weapons were recovered from the suspects. Investigation is ongoing to apprehend other fleeing members of the gang,” he added.
The police commiserated with the family of the slain student, assuring the public that justice would be served.
“The Kano State Police Command, while sympathising with the bereaved family, commends the officers involved in the operation for their diligence and professionalism.
We remain committed to maintaining law and order and bringing all criminals to justice. Further information will be provided as investigations continue,” the statement concluded.
