The All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Dass Local Government Area of Bauchi State has suffered a significant setback as 7,500 members, including key party executives, have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Leading the mass defection is the deputy chairman of APC in Dass LGA, Yunusa Umar, alongside the APC Youth Leader, Yusuf Inuwa Bora, and the Welfare Secretary, Isah Zakaria.

Their departure marks a major political realignment in the area, potentially reshaping the power dynamics ahead of the next general elections.

The defectors were formally received into the PDP at a well-attended reception hosted by the party’s local chairman, Hon. Yusuf Sabo, and the executive chairman of Dass LGA, Hon. Mohammed Abubakar Jibo.

The event, which drew a large crowd of party supporters, symbolized the growing influence of the PDP in the region.

Explaining the rationale behind their decision, Umar highlighted the impact of Governor Bala Mohammed’s policies, stating that they had brought tangible benefits to the people of Bauchi State since 2019.

“Governor Bala Mohammed’s policies since 2019 have convinced us to align with PDP. The interests of our supporters come first, and we believe PDP truly prioritizes the welfare of the people,” Umar stated.

He further emphasized that PDP’s leadership had outperformed the APC-led administration of former Speaker Yakubu Dogara in delivering developmental projects.

The defection represents a major shift in the political sphere of Bauchi State as parties continue to reposition themselves in preparation for the forthcoming elections.
