The Kano State Hisbah Board has arrested a 43-year-old man, identified as Abubakar Adodo from Fagge Local Government Area, for allegedly attempting to traffic two women to Somalia through Benin Republic.

The victims, 22-year-old Hajara Ismail from Funtua, Katsina State, and 33-year-old Bilkisu Haruna from Kofar Marusa, also in Katsina, were intercepted alongside the suspect at a motor park in Kano while preparing to travel to Lagos, from where they were reportedly scheduled to continue their journey to Somalia.

Speaking on the development, the Deputy Commander General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Mujahid Aminudeen Abubakar, said the arrest followed a tip-off from concerned citizens.

“The operation was carried out by the Officer-in-Charge of Motor Parks Operations after we received credible information from Good Samaritans,” Sheikh Abubakar stated.

He confirmed that the suspect and the two women have since been handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and possible prosecution.

The Hisbah Board has in recent months intensified surveillance across transportation hubs in Kano, working with other security agencies to curb human trafficking and immoral activities in the state.
