The Sokoto State Police Command has arrested a 25-year-old man, identified as Sufiyanu Aliyu, of Gwanyal Village, Tangaza Local Government Area, for allegedly killing his 15-year-old wife, Suwaiba Abubakar Bawa, following a domestic dispute.

According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ahmad Rufai, the tragic incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on October 27. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect and his wife were involved in a heated argument that escalated violently, resulting in the fatal stabbing of the wife.

“Upon receiving the report, police operatives were immediately dispatched to the scene. The area was visited, processed, and cordoned off for forensic analysis.

The suspect was apprehended at the scene, and a knife believed to be the weapon used in the commission of the crime was recovered as an exhibit,” the statement read.

Rufai added that the victim’s body was evacuated to a hospital, where a medical doctor confirmed her death. During interrogation, Aliyu confessed to the crime, and further investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.

The Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, commended the swift response of the officers involved in the operation. He assured residents of the Command’s continued commitment to protecting lives and property and ensuring that justice is served in all criminal cases.

The suspect is expected to be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.
