Tragedy struck in the Gezawa Local Government Area of Kano State on Monday when a lightning strike claimed the lives of two siblings and left another injured in Kogi Fulani village.

The victims, identified as Basiru and Salamatu Muhammad, died instantly during a heavy rainfall, while their sister, Hafsat Muhammad, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment.

Their father, Malam Muhammad, who spoke in grief, described the incident as a devastating blow to the family. “We are deeply pained by the sudden loss. It is something we never imagined,” he said.

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) had earlier issued warnings of possible thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in several parts of the country. The agency cautioned residents against seeking shelter under trees or staying in open fields during severe weather to reduce the risks of lightning strikes.

Since then, community members have flocked to the family compound, offering prayers for the deceased’s repose and commiserating with the bereaved household.
