The Kano State Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA) has launched mobile courts to try motorists and tricycle operators who flout traffic light rules within the metropolis.

The new measure, rolled out on Tuesday, comes on the heels of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s directive for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and improved road safety.

Speaking during the inauguration, KAROTA Managing Director Faisal Mahmud Kabir explained that the state government had recently installed several solar-powered traffic lights across the city to ease congestion and enhance safety. He urged residents to reciprocate the investment by obeying the law.

“With the support of Governor Yusuf’s administration, modern traffic facilities have been provided. It is now the responsibility of every road user to comply with the rules to ensure safety for all,” Kabir said.

He emphasized that the mobile courts will conduct instant trials and prosecute offenders immediately. According to him, the initiative is designed to protect lives, safeguard property, and guarantee a smooth flow of traffic in the state capital.

Meanwhile, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano Sector Command, has pledged to work with KAROTA to enforce the initiative. The command assured that its officers would support arresting and prosecuting violators to ensure total compliance.
