The Kano State Police Command has reiterated its enforcement of the ban on public protests, processions, and unlawful gatherings, reminding residents of the ongoing restriction.

This reminder comes ahead of a significant hearing at the Federal High Court in Kano concerning the emirate leadership tussle.

In a statement released by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, and made available to newsmen on Thursday, the police urged the public to remain patriotic and avoid any actions that could incite violence. Haruna emphasized the police’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

“Members of the general public are called upon to remain patriotic and to shun any attempt by enemies of the peace to use them to cause violence, as the lives of everyone are sacred and the priority of the police is to protect them, including their property,” Haruna stated.

The police command highlighted that they, along with other law enforcement agencies in the state, are strictly enforcing the total ban placed by the Kano State Government on public protests, processions, and related unlawful gatherings.

The statement underscored the police’s dedication to maintaining law and order, warning that violators and their sponsors will be promptly identified and sanctioned according to the law.

“There shall be adequate security deployments of security personnel embarking on the enforcement duties and to ensure no breakdown of law and order,” Haruna added.

He called on residents to cooperate with the security personnel they encounter and to provide actionable information and intelligence to help preserve peace and facilitate the detection, arrest, investigation, and prosecution of deviants.

The police spokesperson also clarified that non-state actors, including vigilantes and hunters, are prohibited from participating in security activities under the guise of providing security to any section of the community.
