Operatives of the Kano State Hisbah Board have arrested a 24-year-old man, Shamsu Yakubu, over an alleged obscene act involving a goat.
Yakubu, a resident of Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area, was apprehended on Tuesday, April 15, after a viral video appeared to show him licking the genitals of a goat while instructing another individual to record the act.
The footage, which quickly gained traction online, has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation from members of the public and religious leaders in the state.
In a statement, the Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Aminuddeen Abubakar, described the incident as “shameful” and “a clear violation of Islamic morals and human decency.”
“It is tragic that a Muslim man would subject himself to such a disgraceful act, ignoring all religious and ethical values. This individual clearly lacks any proper understanding of Islam. His pursuit of cheap social media fame has led him into disgrace,” Sheikh Aminuddeen stated.

During interrogation, Yakubu admitted to staging the act in a desperate bid for online fame. However, he denied actually engaging in bestiality, claiming he only pretended for the video.
“I swear to Allah, I did not lick the goat. I only placed my mouth near the area,” he said. He also denied being under the influence of drugs or alcohol and insisted it was his first time engaging in such behavior.
The Hisbah Board has ordered psychiatric and drug evaluations to determine his mental and physical condition.
Community members who identified Yakubu in the video expressed disgust, with some reportedly threatening to take matters into their own hands. A local leader intervened by alerting the Hisbah Board, leading to his swift arrest.
The Hisbah Board says investigations are ongoing, and further actions will be taken based on the outcome of medical evaluations and legal review.
