Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf welcomed prominent members of the Council of Ulama and Imams to an Iftar gathering at Government House on Saturday, commemorating the 15th day of Ramadan.

The event strengthened bonds between government and religious leadership while providing a platform for announcing significant religious infrastructure developments.

In his address, Governor Yusuf revealed plans to transform the Kofar Mata Eid Prayer Ground into an International Islamic Conference Centre.

This initiative aims to repurpose a space currently used only twice yearly for Eid prayers into a permanent hub for Islamic scholarship and activities.

The governor announced that the foundation stone-laying ceremony will take place two weeks after Eid al-Fitr, with management of the completed centre to be entrusted to the Ulama.

The governor also committed to renovating Friday mosques throughout Kano State, instructing the Commissioner for Religious Affairs to identify facilities requiring urgent attention.

He further disclosed that construction is underway on a larger Government House Friday Mosque to accommodate more worshippers.

Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude for the religious leaders’ contributions to peace and stability in Kano State, emphasizing the importance of continued unity and collaboration between government and religious institutions.

Sheikh Muhammad Nasir Adam, speaking on behalf of the religious leaders, praised the governor’s initiatives, noting that Islam encourages both feeding those who fast and developing places of worship. He pledged the Ulama’s continued support and prayers for the state’s progress.

The gathering was attended by members of the Shari’a Commission, Executive Council members, and other distinguished guests.

However, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his commitment to incorporating religious leaders’ input into government policies to maintain peace, stability, and religious harmony in Kano State.
