The Kano State House of Assembly has suspended Muhammad Nazir Yau, chairman of Rano Local Government, for three months over allegations of misconduct, abuse of office, and misappropriation of funds.

The suspension followed the submission of an interim report by the House Committee on Public Petitions, chaired by Majority Leader Hussaini Lawan Cediyar Yangurasa, during Wednesday’s plenary.

The Assembly directed the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to instruct the council’s vice chairman to assume office in an acting capacity, pending the outcome of investigations.

Allegations against Yau include instigating political conflict, divisive distribution of government resources, and unauthorized allocation and sale of market stalls.

He was also accused of overpricing government-approved fertilisers, mishandling council revenues, and disrespecting party elders.

During a committee session on August 11, Yau dismissed most allegations but admitted increasing fertiliser prices by ₦2,000 above the approved ₦20,000.

The committee, citing Section 55 (1-6) of the Local Government Law 2006, upheld the suspension to enable a full probe and ordered the submission of all financial and administrative records within seven days.

The House, presided over by Speaker Ismail Falgore, adopted the recommendations.
