The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has re-elected President Bola Tinubu as its chairman.
This came about one year after he took over the leadership of the regional bloc.
Tinubu, who rose to power in May 2023 was re-elected as the ECOWAS chairman during the 65th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.
The event is taking place at the Presidential Villa in Nigeria’s Abuja capital.

Tinubu’s tenure as ECOWAS leader was billed to expire on Tuesday July 9, 2024 before his re-election.
Presidents and representatives of member states are currently meeting at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
The meeting is said to be the 65th Ordinary Summit of the regional Heads of States.
President Tinubu’s tenure as a ECOWAS leader was characterized by the coup in some member countries, with efforts still ongoing to bring back Niger Republic, Mali and Burkina Faso into the regional bloc.
