The Nigeria Police Force has summoned the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, to appear before its Force Intelligence Department in Abuja over his alleged defiance of security directives during the recent Eid celebrations.

In a letter dated April 4, 2025, and signed by the Commissioner of Police (Operations), CP Olajide Rufus Ibitoye, the former Central Bank Governor and prominent traditional ruler is directed to report at the Force Intelligence Department headquarters by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.

According to the police, the summons relates to Emir Sanusi’s decision to proceed with traditional Durbar activities during the Eid festivities, despite an official suspension of such events due to security concerns.

Authorities had earlier announced a ban on public Durbar processions in Kano, citing fears of potential unrest and threats to public safety.

However, on Sallah day, Emir Sanusi reportedly led a large procession through Kano, attracting thousands of spectators. He also paid a public visit to the Kano State Government House, actions seen as a direct violation of the security advisory.

The police have since opened a formal investigation into the matter. As part of the probe, the Kano State Police Command has also invited Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, a senior palace official, for questioning over his alleged role in facilitating the ceremonies.
