Two people have lost their lives, and one person was injured after falling into an abandoned well in Unguwar Malamin Kurunsumau, Kura Local Government Area of Kano State.
The tragic incident occurred on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at about 6:50 p.m., according to a statement released by the spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.
Abdullahi disclosed that the fire service received a distress call from a resident, Zakariya Adamu, who reported that a four-year-old boy, Abubakar Ahmad, had accidentally fallen into an old, disused well, which was previously used for pumping refuse.
“In an attempt to rescue the boy, a 22-year-old man, Abubakar Muhammad, jumped into the well but was also trapped. Another man, Jibrin Muhammad, 30, joined the rescue attempt but similarly became trapped,” the statement said.
