Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has officially signed a supplementary budget of N99 billion into law. This move is aimed at enabling the state to implement the new minimum wage and cover other essential services.

The signing ceremony took place following the Kano State House of Assembly’s approval of the budget. Governor Yusuf initially submitted the supplementary budget proposal to the Kano Assembly on August 20, 2024.

The proposal was swiftly reviewed and passed by the Assembly, highlighting the urgency of addressing the state’s financial needs.

Kano State House of Assembly Speaker, Jibril Falgore, emphasized the significance of the budget in his remarks. He noted that the funds would be allocated toward recurrent expenditures, personnel, and overhead.

The budget is designed to ensure that the state government can meet its obligations, particularly in the implementation of the new minimum wage for public sector workers.

“The supplementary budget is crucial for maintaining financial stability in the state and ensuring that the new minimum wage can be effectively implemented,” Speaker Falgore stated. “This budget will also provide the necessary resources to sustain other vital services in the state.”
