Former Bayelsa East Senator and business magnate, Ben Murray-Bruce, has officially resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing his conviction in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and the ongoing reforms under his administration.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Murray-Bruce clarified that his decision was “not for politics, but for progress,” noting that President Tinubu’s policies were laying a strong foundation for Nigeria’s economic revival and long-term prosperity.

“I have known President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu since 1998. I know the man’s mind, his courage, and his conviction. He is not driven by applause, he is driven by results. And today, I can boldly say to you that he is on the right track,” he stated.

The former lawmaker praised Tinubu’s understanding of finance and commitment to market-oriented reforms, which he said are transforming Nigeria into a “free-market economy that rewards hard work and innovation.”

Murray-Bruce, founder of the Silverbird Group and a long-time PDP stalwart, lauded several policy changes under the Tinubu administration, including the deregulation of fuel supply, professional leadership at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and the restructuring of the national security architecture.

“Insecurity is being quietly and systematically dismantled. The Central Bank, now professionally steered, is stabilizing the economy, rebuilding confidence, and restoring the dignity of the naira,” he said.

He further credited the government’s foreign policy direction and infrastructural investments, describing them as “unprecedented” and crucial to Nigeria’s growth.

“Bola Tinubu’s infrastructural drive is unprecedented; from massive road networks to modernized ports, airports and housing schemes springing up across the nation. These developments are not just concrete and steel; they are the arteries through which growth and opportunity now flow,” he added.

Murray-Bruce acknowledged the economic difficulties faced by Nigerians but maintained that the current hardships are “the pains of reform” necessary for the country’s rebirth.

“That is why today, I am joining the All Progressives Congress (APC), not for politics, but for progress. Because I believe that Bola Tinubu’s leadership, guided by courage and intellect, will deliver the Nigeria we have all dreamed of,” he concluded.

He expressed confidence that within Tinubu’s full eight-year term, Nigeria would witness “phenomenal growth.”

Murray-Bruce’s defection adds to the list of high-profile figures who have recently switched allegiance to the APC, amid growing political realignments across the country.
