A tragic accident occurred on Friday night in Ogun State when a Dangote Cement truck allegedly rammed into a tricycle, killing all five occupants on the spot.

The fatal crash happened around 8:30 p.m. at Alapoka, along the Papalanto–Ilaro Road in Yewa South Local Government Area.

Spokesperson of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident.

He said it involved an unregistered tricycle and a Dangote truck with registration number GRZ 767 XA.

According to Akinbiyi, preliminary investigations indicated that brake failure on the part of the truck caused the accident.

“A fatal road traffic crash occurred at Alapoka Village, Papalanto–Ilaro Road, Yewa South Local Government Area of Ogun State on Friday at about 8:25 p.m. The tricycle was conveying five people, and sadly, all five died on the spot,” he said.

Eyewitnesses said the truck driver was unaware of the collision until the tricycle and its passengers had been completely crushed beneath the vehicle’s tyres.

Following reports of the crash, TRACE officials led by Acting Head Adedayo Omonayajo and Ilaro Divisional Commander Salako Idowu moved to the scene for a rescue operation.

However, the effort was briefly hindered by angry residents who attempted to confront the truck driver. The intervention of the Amotekun Corps later restored calm, allowing rescue operations to continue.

Akinbiyi added that the bodies of the deceased were evacuated and deposited at a morgue by officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).
