Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State has returned to political limelight barely seven months after the Senate failed to confirm him as one of the ministerial nominees.
In what took many by surprise, El-Rufai, paid a visit to the national secretariat of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Abuja, on Wednesday.
SDP was among the parties that participated in the 2023 election, which El-Rufai, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, was actively involved in.
The former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) was on his way to securing a ministerial appointment in the government of President Bola Tinubu but he was dropped in the dying minute.
The senate had failed to clear him over alleged security clearance. Subsequently, the former minister went abroad and literarily withdrew from politics.
However, he returned to the country and continued his life quietly; His visit to SDP national secretariat has set tongues wagging, with some linking it to the 2027 political race.
Chief Olu Agunloye, former Power Minister who like El-Rufai served in the cabinet of ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo, was among those who received the immediate past governor of Kaduna State at the SDP secretariat.
