Former Leader of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the House Committee on Petroleum Resources (Upstream), Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa, has spoken out in defense of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration following comments made by Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the 2023 elections.
During a political gathering in Kano, Kwankwaso suggested that Nigerians, particularly in the northern region, were disillusioned with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and would vote them out in the 2027 elections.
In response, Doguwa criticized Kwankwaso, accusing him of making baseless claims due to lingering frustration from his loss in the last presidential election.

“At a political gathering on Thursday, my colleague in the House of Representatives in the 3rd Republic, Kwankwaso, took his hallucination to the moon when he said Nigerians are tired of the APC and will change it in 2027,” Doguwa remarked.
“As we all know, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not leaving any stone unturned in his quest to return our country to the path of progress and prosperity for the benefit of all.”

Doguwa emphasized that since assuming office 16 months ago, President Tinubu has made significant strides in correcting the fiscal imbalances that plagued the nation’s economy.
He noted that the administration has already attracted foreign direct investments worth over $30 billion and paid a forex backlog of $7 billion.
Additionally, Tinubu’s government has reduced the debt service ratio from 97% to 68% and maintained a foreign reserve of $37 billion.
The lawmaker highlighted the president’s efforts to bolster security in the North West region, citing the elimination of over 300 Boko Haram and bandit commanders, including notorious leader Kachalla Halilu Sububu, who had been a menace in Sokoto, Zamfara, Katsina, and Kaduna for over five years.

“Fresh air is already permeating the North West in view of the onslaught against these bandits. Our people are now returning to their farms. We pray for a bumper harvest,” Doguwa stated.
He also lauded the establishment of the North West Development Commission, aimed at accelerating reconstruction and development in the region.
Doguwa criticized Kwankwaso’s influence over the NNPP government in Kano State, suggesting that the party has already lost focus and the confidence of the people.
“No matter the noise Kwankwaso makes, the APC in Kano is already poised to unseat the kangaroo NNPP government in Kano State come 2027, following the non-performance, loss of people’s confidence, and breach of electoral promises by the NNPP,” he said.
He concluded by expressing optimism that the current economic challenges facing Nigerians would soon be resolved as Tinubu’s policies begin to yield positive results, reaffirming the APC’s readiness to remain in power and continue its efforts towards national development.
