The Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has resigned from office, citing health challenges.

The development was confirmed on Monday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

According to him, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation and expressed appreciation for Badaru’s service to the nation.

Badaru’s resignation was conveyed in a letter addressed to President Tinubu and dated December 1, in which he stated that deteriorating health conditions prompted his decision to step down.

Onanuga reaffirmed that the former minister exited the role strictly on health grounds.

His resignation comes at a time when parts of the country are grappling with rising insecurity.
