The Osun State Government has appointed Nigerian music superstar, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as the Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, in a move aimed at revitalizing the state’s sports sector and attracting global investment.

The announcement was made by the Deputy Governor of Osun State, Kola Adewusi, during a briefing on Thursday, where he explained that the appointment is part of the government’s strategic plan to boost funding and development in sports across the state.

According to Adewusi, the Sports Trust Fund will serve as a sustainable platform for financing sports projects, supporting athletes, and upgrading facilities through donations from both local and international partners.

“Davido has been appointed to chair the Sports Trust Fund, and he did not hesitate in accepting the appointment,” Adewusi said.
“His intervention would attract funds that would impact Osun sports positively.”

He further revealed that the Governor Ademola Adeleke-led administration is committed to transforming Osun into a hub for sporting excellence, citing ongoing efforts to renovate the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards.

“Ongoing renovation and rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards is a project that will be completed in the shortest possible time,” he added.

Adewusi also disclosed that plans are underway to establish the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the central body for sports administration, development, and policy implementation.

The Deputy Governor emphasized that the creation of the trust fund and commission marks a major milestone in Osun’s drive to revive sports culture and empower young talents across the state.

With Davido at the helm of the fund, the government hopes to leverage his global influence and network to attract philanthropists, corporate sponsors, and international agencies to invest in Osun’s sporting future.
