A female student of Kano State Polytechnic, Khadija Hassan Charanchi, and her boyfriend, Khalid Hussain, popularly known as Baffa, have been arraigned before a Shari’a court in Kano over an alleged assault on a lecturer.
The incident reportedly occurred after Charanchi accused the lecturer, Aliyu Hamza Abdullahi, of being a hindrance to her academic progress.
She allegedly invited her boyfriend to confront Abdullahi in his office, a confrontation that escalated dramatically. According to reports, Hussain brought out a cutlass during the altercation and attacked the lecturer.

The Kano State Police Command swiftly intervened, arresting both suspects. They were subsequently charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, belonging to a thuggery group, trespassing, and attempted homicide.
Both Charanchi and Hussain pleaded not guilty to the charges. Due to the Shari’a court’s lack of jurisdiction to handle certain aspects of the case, the presiding khadi ordered their remand in custody and adjourned the matter to February 27 for re-arraignment.
This incident has sparked discussions about student conduct and safety within academic institutions in Kano State.
Authorities are being urged to ensure justice is served while addressing the broader issues of violence and discipline on campus.
