Suspected Boko Haram terrorists have abducted the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the Nigerian Army University Biu (NAUB), Professor Abubakar Eljuma, along with other passengers near Kamuya village on the Damaturu-Biu road in Yobe State.

A source, as gathered by Grassroots Parrot, disclosed that Professor Eljuma was returning from Maiduguri, where he had visited his family, when the abduction occurred.

“He even had a meeting scheduled for the morning when this unfortunate incident happened. His family was aware, but the university community is in shock over the development,” the source stated.

It was further gathered that Professor Eljuma was among the 30 candidates vying for the position of Vice-Chancellor of the university.

A security source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that on March 2, 2025, suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP militants intercepted travelers aboard two Golf cars and a Borno Express bus along the Damaturu-Biu highway.

According to the source, all female passengers were released, while the male passengers, including Professor Eljuma, were taken captive.

“We are requesting prayers in this holy month of Ramadan for their swift and safe release,” the source pleaded.

The Damaturu-Biu road has increasingly become notorious for violent attacks, killings, and abductions.

Reports indicate that just five months ago, an academic staff member from the Department of Building was killed on the same route while returning from Maiduguri. The continued insecurity along this critical road has left motorists and commuters in a state of constant fear.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement regarding the latest abduction, but security operatives are expected to intensify efforts to rescue the victims and curb the menace of insurgency in the state.
