The Kano State Police Command has confirmed the death of five individuals following a deadly explosion involving a military-grade explosive device on Saturday.

Grassroots Parrot reports that the tragic incident occurred at a scrap collection company located along the Eastern Bypass in Kano city. According to the police, the explosion originated from a truck that had arrived from Yobe State.

Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, who visited the scene, described the explosive as a “military model bomb” and confirmed that 15 people were injured in the blast.

“I was called regarding an emergency explosion in the area. On arrival, we discovered it was a military EOD [Explosive Ordnance Disposal] personnel-level device that went off,” CP Bakori told reporters.

The injured victims were rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where five were later confirmed dead, and 10 others are currently receiving treatment.

Preliminary investigations suggest the explosive was unknowingly transported from Yobe State in the scrap-laden truck. CP Bakori assured the public that a full investigation is ongoing and more details will be released as findings unfold.
